Digital assets in safe hands – Shufflebottom & Cyber Essentials

Shufflebottom, as all businesses in the UK, and the general public, cannot fail to be aware of the prevalent level of Cyber threat and attack we all face. It is frightening statistic that 7.7 million crimes have been experienced by UK business last year – that’s half of all businesses. We did not want to be part of those statistics.

So as a matter of course, Shufflebottom strives to constantly develop and strengthen our business security so that we can help keep our organisation – and importantly, our customers’ and our clients’ businesses safe from Cyber attacks. Put simply, we want “to bolt our doors” tighter against the most common Cyber attacks.

To this end, following an in-depth audit, we have now been placed on the approved register of businesses certificated by Cyber Essentials (a UK Government-backed certification scheme that helps keep an organisation protected from the most common Cyber threats). We answered a series of questions that addressed the scope of the assessment, regarding our employees, the devices we used, and our work locations. We also responded to the five core controls of Cyber Essentials, including:

  • user access control

  • secure configuration

  • security update management

  • firewalls and routers

  • malware protection

The answers were signed off Shufflebottom Managing Director, Alex Shufflebottom and Shufflebottom Purchasing Manager, Louise Wigley, and the answers were then marked by an independent Assessor.

We were deemed safe in protecting digital assets and the storage of highly sensitive data. Now we have the official tick of approval, and know the certification is a must because it makes us:

  • more resilient

  • more trusted

  • more competitive

  • more informed

This news is not only good for us at Shufflebottom, as we can increase our visibility in the supply chain, but importantly for all our customers. Increasingly customers are having to manage the risk from threats in complex digital supply chains and our Cyber Essentials certification is a tangible way to help them manage that risk by verifying our Cyber Security measures from the register. To put it simply, to feel safe in our hands. This also applies to the large Contractors we supply to. They too can have confidence in our digital security controls as we supply our structural steel and expert skills in the delivery of their high-profile construction projects.

All our stakeholders involved with the Shufflebottom brand can have increased confidence that they continue to be in safe hands going forward with the award of our Cyber Essentials Certificate of Assurance.
