Modern steel-framed buildings and historic buildings

St Fagan’s National Museum of History, Cardiff, is one of the family of 7 national museums that together make up the Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales brand.

St Fagan’s has been Wales’ most popular heritage attraction for decades and holds a special place in the hearts of the people of Wales because St Fagan’s is just that – a people’s museum where everyday history is explored through the everyday lives of people. And it’s fully accessible and free to explore thanks to Welsh Government funding.

A day out at St Fagan’s will enable you to encounter and engage with: a castle and gardens; superb galleries; traditional craft-making and activities; and over 40 original historic buildings which, since 1948, have been moved for safety and preservation, from locations across Wales and re-erected with care on the 100-acre site. Here you’ll see terraced houses, a farm, a school, a chapel and a workman’s institute.

What you probably won’t notice are two of Shufflebottom’s modern, steel-framed buildings! But we’re delighted to have been chosen to manufacture, deliver and erect both agricultural buildings to take their place and do their job unobtrusively at this living museum.

In July 2021, we delivered the first agricultural building 22.86m long x 12.19m wide x 3.65m to eaves with 5 x 4.57m bays. We were therefore pleased to be re-commissioned in October, 2022 to supply a second building – a non-load-bearing muck-heap cover with a 1.5m overhang to side elevation. This building is 15.85m long x5.96/4.43m wide x 4.57 to eaves. with 2 x 6.09m + 1 x 3.65m bays

The roofs of both buildings are clad in Natural Grey P6R Fibre Cement, the steel-work shot-blast to B.S. SA2.5. Painted 75 Micron Zinc Phosphate High Build Primer – Colour 14C39 (Green). Both buildings are supplied to B.S. 5502 – 22: 2003 + A1: 2013 – Agricultural Specification and CE Marked to Execution Class 2.

You might not be going to St Fagan’s specifically to visit out agricultural buildings, but it’s a source of pride to us at Shufflebottom, that our 2 buildings are deemed of exacting quality and aesthetics to stand with the other historic showcase buildings and together tell the story of Wales, past and present.
