A first for Shufflebottom with environmental pioneer Hillier Nurseries
At Shufflebottom we’re delighted that we were selected by renowned environmental pioneer, Hillier Nurseries Limited, to deliver not one, but three projects during 2022. This is the first time we have supplied Hillier Nurseries Ltd with our steel-framed buildings and we couldn’t be more proud.
Hillier is a brand that resonates across the UK and is a brand synonymous with quality plants and trees and everything you might need for your garden, including advice from experts. Established in Winchester in 1864, this family-run, fifth-generation business is now headquartered in Romsey, Hampshire and has a network of 22 garden centres across the south of England where, as per their mission statement, Hiller is “inspiring green living spaces – for now and the future.” Growing 1 million plants, 75 thousand British-grown trees, and holding the world record for the number of medals (74) won at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, it is not surprising that Hillier is respected as a UK leader in horticulture.
As a family-run business committed to growth ourselves, Shufflebottom was thrilled to play a part in Hillier’s expansion and development at the Hillier Garden Centre, Hermitage, Thatcham, in the beautiful county of Berkshire.
Commission 1 Ref: E14005
Our first commission, delivered in April 2022, was for the supply of a stand-alone steel-framed linear extension to an existing building, built to B.S. 5950 Industrial Specification and CE Marked to Execution Class 2. Measuring 10m in length x 10.1m in width x 3.6m to eaves, the structure has 1 x 5m bay and 1 x 4.7m bay with a 300m over-sail. The steelwork is shot blast to B.S SA 2.5 and painted in zinc phosphate high build primer in grey. The roof is clad in 0.5mm Kingspan KS1000RW XL Forte Leathergrain Plastic Coated Box Profile LPC approved 100mm composite panels in Goosewing Grey. The sides are clad in Vertical Kingspan 0.5mm KS1000RW XL Forte Leathergrain (80mm) also in Goosewing Grey.
Commission 2 Ref: E14006
Our second commission, delivered in July 2022, was for the supply of a steel-framed building that is to function as a warehouse. Supplied to the same industrial specification and standard as commission 1, the dimensions of this structure are of considerable scope: 40.4m long x 10.8m wide x 3.605m to eaves with 7 x 5.772m bays. The roof is clad in 0.5mm Kingspan KS 1000RW XL Forte Leathergrain Plastic Coated Box Profile Approved 100mm composite insulated panels with 7 x 3m long roof lights. The sides are clad in Vertical Kingspan 0.5mm KS1000RW XL Forte Leathergrain (80mm) also in Goosewing Grey.
Commission 3 Ref: E14007
Our third commission, delivered in December 2022, was for the supply of a brand new steel-framed building of size, and built to industrial specifications and standards as the previous two buildings. The building is to be used as a retail unit at Hermitage. It measures 79.248m x 30.2m x 3.78 at rear elevation and has a 2.9m wide column-free overhang along the south-east elevation. The roof is clad as the other buildings in 0.5mm Kingspan KS1000RW XL Forte Leathergrain Plastic Coated Box Profile LPC approved 115mm composite panels in Goosewing Grey but the canopy fascia is clad in an Anthracite Grey XL Forte Leathergrain approved flat panel with a core depth of 45mm. The sides are clad in Vertical Kingspan 0.5mm KS1000RW XL Forte Leathergrain (73mm) also in Goosewing Grey.
The consistency in the colour profiles of all three buildings on site has synergy and lend a pleasing aesthetic to the Berkshire landscape. The project is testament to Shufflebottom’s strength in the horticultural sector and adds to our growing profile in providing agricultural and industrial-specific steel-framed buildings for Garden Centre operations across the whole of the UK.
We’d like to thank Hillier Nurseries Ltd for putting their trust in Shufflebottom for the first time. We also wish them continued success in the growth of their business and the fulfilment of their mission as they continue to inspire the UK’s green living spaces.
