Shufflebottom Fun Day

On Friday, 12th August, Shufflebottom staff enjoyed a fabulous fun day away from the factory and offices at Cross Hands and ventured west!

On a bright and beautiful day, over 50 of us – almost two-thirds of our workforce – boarded two bright and beautiful yellow coaches courtesy of Jones International Coaches from nearby Llandeilo and set off for award-winning Heatherton World of Activities, near Tenby, in our neighbouring county of Pembrokeshire.

After the challenges of social distancing it was good to get together like this and be challenged by something other than a global pandemic! And boy were we challenged in the most fantastic way!

We were split into two teams: one led by our Foreman, Eddie Roche and the other, led by our Assistant Foreman, Clayton Francis, as we were equipped with all the equipment necessary for a paintball battle – combat overalls, masks, paintball and guns. In 10 acres of glorious Pembrokeshire woodland, bushes and marshland, we went into battle in the six exhilarating battle zones.

It was serious fun and a huge adrenaline rush. Not only was it fun but it gave us chance once again to combine team-building work, action and adventure and challenge ourselves in a completely different context.

At the end of the mock battles, Clayton’s team was crowned the overall winner. And there were no hard feelings. Honestly! Any slight disappointment of being vanquished was soon overcome by the wonderful food and refreshments we enjoyed at Heatherton later.  We returned to the coaches exhausted yet exhilarated, our morale boosted, and in the knowledge that we’d bonded together as a workforce. It was like a good old family day out.

We’d certainly do it again and would recommend Heatherton to anyone wanting a family-fun day out at a place offering indoor and outdoor activities for all ages.
