Shufflebottom – recognised for excellence again and again

Shufflebottom is proud to call itself an award-winning business. For over 13 years it has consistently been recognised for excellence across a host of prestigious awards in the construction industry at national and local level. This means a lot to us and our #teamofsteel. And importantly, it means a lot to our customers, who have increased trust when they see their steel-framed buildings’ supplier validated so often.

From awards for steel work specialism and quality & design of buildings in the commercial, industrial and agricultural sectors, to awards that recognise the excellence of our staff training and our delivery and project management on-site, our glass cabinets at HQ in Cross Hands, are full of accolades that reflect our success and our pride.

What follows, chosen from many more, is a selection of some of our key awards over those last 13 years:

2011 – Shufflebottom Director, Alex Shufflebottom received the Women in Business Award for International Achievement, sponsored by the Evening Post and Swansea Bay Business Life. The recognition was particularly satisfying in an industry historically seen as ‘male’.

2014 – a game-changing year for us at Shufflebottom when we received the Construction News ‘Steelwork Specialist of the Year Award’. It shifted perceptions about us and positioned us as a leading UK player in the steel-framed buildings’ market. We also received the most wonderful endorsement from Construction News, the words staying with us through the years: “Quality runs through the veins of this business.”

2015 – a plethora of awards came to Shufflebottom from the Farming and Agricultural Buildings Awards (from 2017 the Rural & Industrial Design & Building Association [RIDBA] Awards). These included: The Functionality Award, The Unusual Building Award, and the Light Industrial Building Award for the Lampeter RFC building. Shufflebottom was also announced as the overall winner with its delivery of the Hirwaun Fire Station (50% aesthetics, 30% functionality, 20% sustainability).

2017 – Shufflebottom scooped the RIDBA Winner Award in the commercial sector for delivery the outstanding project for Wales Air Ambulance and also the Education & Research Winner Award for the fantastic CUBRIC building in Cardiff.

2018 – the focus was firmly on Shufflebottom’s benchmark-setting work in Health & Safety when it won the Gold Award in the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (ROSPA) Awards.

2019 – another great year when the training & skills aspects of Shufflebottom’s business were recognised in the award of Gold Winner in the RIDBA Building Awards.

2021 – following the challenges of the construction sector during the COVID 19 Pandemic it was once again satisfying to receive Gold for training in the RIDBA Building Awards.

2023 – a spectacular year for Shufflebottom when they scooped both the RIDBA Winner Award for Training (again!) and also, close to home, were presented with the Top Performer Award given in recognition of excellence in the Bouygues UK Supply Chain Award for its delivery of 1,300 tonnes of steel for the first phase of the flagship Pentre Awel project in Llanelli – south west Wales biggest regeneration project!

We are delighted to have received this diverse range of awards, for all the effort of our staff and the excellence in all aspects of the delivery of our projects. However, we are not complacent about our success to date, and know we’re only as good as our next job and will strive to keep the awards coming!
