Off to a Flying Start at Goetre Primary School
Shufflebottom is proud to share the news that we’ve once again been working with our long-term partner, Morgan Sindall Construction, to deliver the steelwork for Goetre Primary School, Merthyr Tydfil, south Wales. We’ve finished on-site erecting 136 tonnes of hot-rolled steel and 3.5 tonnes of cold-rolled steel that will underpin this new build situated on a site below Pen y Dre High School.
Part of the Morgan Sindall Group, Morgan Sindall Construction is one of the UK’s most respected organisations in construction and regeneration of the built environment. At its heart is the commitment to tackle climate change and create social value through energy-efficient buildings. Its mission statement puts its business objective as ‘place-making with purpose.’
With a trusted track record in delivering schools fit for 21st century use, Morgan Sindall was selected as the lead contractor to bring about this new facility of excellence. The model requires schools to be fully accessible and for their facilities to be brought up to standards compatible with this millennium. The development will target Net Zero carbon in operation and will benefit from first-class learning environments and much-improved outdoor spaces.
The new build is a much-needed 420 place primary school for Goetre, including 80 full-time equivalent nursery places, 2 learning resources bases, Flying Start childcare provision and community facilities. It will be built to Net Zero Carbon Standards and is funded by Welsh Government and delivered by Merthyr Tydfil CBC.
As part of Morgan Sindall ethos, social values and sustainable communities are at the heart of every project they undertake. Their involvement with local communities continues long after a building project is complete. As evidence of that, they are committed to engage and support citizens of the future.
At Shufflebottom, our ESG aligns with this, and so we were recently delighted to visit Goetre Primary School to donate Easter Eggs to the delight of the children of the current Goetre school at Gurnos Estate. Dale Lloyd (Project Manager, Shufflebottom) joined Jason Bowen (Project Manager, Morgan Sindall) and Christian Francis (Director, C&S Steel Structures) at the school and had a wonderful time with the children and future generations’ work force.
Shufflebottom is justifiably proud to be working with Morgan Sindall again and together, building the new landscape of education and sustainable communities in Wales
