Delivering the Breakwater 2 Project to the Isle of Wight

No two projects are ever the same. That’s what makes our business so interesting here at Shufflebottom. And some projects present more challenges than others, and again, this is interesting We like to term them challenges rather than problems and it gives us huge satisfaction when our #teamofsteel here rises every time to the particular test and the result is a first class result and happy client.

Such was the case with our input into the Breakwater 2 development commissioned by our customer, John Peck Construction. The company is recognised in the Isle of Wight and across the south of England as groundwork, civil engineering and building specialists with over two decades of delivering projects in both the commercial and residential sectors.

As a company whose mission is to provide “innovative design solutions and value engineering” they were at the helm of the prestigious Breakwater 2 development, a 7-storey apartment block located right on the sea-front overlooking Sandown beach on the Isle of Wight. And we at Shufflebottom, were delighted that they came to us for the supply of the structural steel at the heart of this stunning project – a contemporary design of luxury apartments and penthouses that definitely live up to John Peck Construction’s mission statement.

Shufflebottom undertook the project on a supply-only basis, as John Peck Construction opted to use a steel erector who was known to them and available on the island. Although we can offer erection services, we are happy to work to this model too.

The project was one of scope and saw us supply 356 tonnes of structural steel which had a painted finish and a small element which was galvanised.

And the challenges? Well, delivering structural steel on the ferry from the mainland to the island is not always easily achievable with weather and tides and logistics! Despite this the structure was delivered to an agreed programme and the chosen erector was able to overcome some of the challenges of erecting the steel on a corner plot!

The result is a very satisfied customer and a block of apartments that surely must have some of the best views in the south of England.
