Shufflebottom’s commitment to Future Generations
At Shufflebottom, our Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy is constantly being developed and is at the heart of our operational model. We know it makes sound business sense to address such issues as youth unemployment and skills’ shortages as well as support government and educational initiatives to improve vocational training and career opportunities for young people.
Our commitment to Future Generations is therefore paramount: this is our pipeline. So for over forty years of trading we have made it our business to forge strong links with education providers in the local, south-west Wales area: universities, FE Colleges, and both secondary and primary schools. That’s why on Thursday, 20th March, 2025, we opened the doors of our factory and offices here at our HQ in Cross Hands to welcome Llandovery College.
Llandovery College is an acclaimed independent school in Carmarthenshire whose mission is to “excite and inspire young minds in a stimulating and fulfilling learning environment which aims to be rich and varied.” As part of this mission, the school includes the innovative BTEC in Business as part of the curriculum and their visit on the 20th March was an opportunity for Sixth-form learners (16-18) to step out of the classroom and experience theory in practice in a context that matches Llandovery College’s mission for the optimum learning environment.
The day offered a wonderful opportunity to showcase our business and tell the story of how we have grown to be a multi-million pound steel-framed buildings’ manufacturer with clients in the industrial, commercial and agricultural sectors across the UK and beyond. It was a chance to show what goes on, and how the cogs keep turning on the production line and in the administration, sales and design departments. Importantly, it was chance to show the business operations behind the Shufflebottom name that is so well known in the Carmarthenshire and wider areas, and inspire a new generation of prospective employees to one day join the current 84+ members of our wonderful #teamofsteel.
Shufflebottom is proud of the feedback we have so far received for providing insights into the UK and Welsh steel manufacturing and construction world:
“I think as a group we were amazed by the sheer size and scale of this clearly family-run and family-orientated, hardworking business.”
Mr Jones, Teacher, Llandovery College
“We are so grateful for Shufflebottom allowing us to visit today. The students learned a great deal about the day-to-day operations of Shufflebottom and how its commitment to support the community has been a key part of its success.”
Mr McLernon, Teacher, Llandovery College
This day is one of many in our calendar that illustrates Shufflebottom's commitment to growth and development of our team by reaching out into the community. The day also aligns perfectly with our recent membership of the 5% Club, an industry-led initiative focused on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates, T-level students and sponsored students
