Shufflebottom has shown its commitment to growth and development of their team, by joining The 5% Club together with their sister company, Hambleton Steel and group, Embrace Steel.  The 5% club is an industry led initiative focused on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates, T-Level students, and sponsored students.

The 5% Club is in line with the company’s ongoing social value commitments to attracting new and existing upskilling talent within the steel industry. Shufflebottom are always looking at way to increase access to a skilled workforce and address the skills gaps at the same time. By incorporating fresh perspectives from new entrants, it supports the Groups continued innovation within all areas of the businesses.

Shufflebottom continue to develop their ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) strategy. And by using the resources available, such as the 5% club, can contribute to addressing issues such as youth unemployment and skills shortages as well as align with government and educational initiatives to improve vocational training and career opportunities for young people.

The 5% Club is a movement of more than 1,000 employers providing ‘earn and learn’ opportunities to develop the skills and talents people need to become more employable and create meaningful careers. Companies joining the 5% Club commit to raising the number of apprentices, sponsored students and graduates on formal programmes to 5% of their total workforce within five years. Members are also asked to publicly report their progress in their Annual Report. Existing members range from SMEs to FTSEs and cover all sectors including engineering, transport, and financial services.
